Tips
To avoid Customs Delays
- Having an accurate, detailed and compatible (consistent across all documents) description of your shipment’s contents can help you to avoid customs delays and ensure a timely customs clearance. While preparing your description, ensure it answers the questions below:
- What item is it?
- What is the quantity?
- What is the material of the item?
- What is the planned use?
Some examples of a Bad Description and a Good Description:
- Gift
- One Ladies Cotton Dress
- Car Parts
- Car Steering Rack
- Samples
- 450cm * 500cm cotton t-shirt sample
- Documents
- One page Graduation Diploma
- It is important to declare the correct value of the items, even if these are given to the recipient free of charge (examples include samples, items for no resale, etc…).
- Keep multiple-piece shipments together, and label each piece of the shipment individually.
- Correctly complete all necessary documents. Keep your answers specific, accurate and free of spelling errors.
- When filling out customs documents, list each commodity separately, and provide a detailed, accurate description of each one, including what it’s made of and how it will be used.
- Legibly print the commodity’s country of origin/manufacture to indicate where your commodity was manufactured, grown or produced.
- If you’re using your own broker, please include their complete contact information.
- Provide phone number or fax information for both the sender and the consignee.
Dangerous goods cannot be handled via courier mode.
